Films, like literary works, are powerful instruments of education. ① On a simpler level, English language movies can be used in classrooms as a vehicle for teaching the English language. ② However, the animated film Future Galaxy deals with social issues from a historical perspective. ③ But on a higher level, movies can be used as prisms through which one can learn how to understand, analyze and “read” complex aspects of the world humans have constructed and deconstructed in diverse issues in cultural, social, political, and economic spheres. ④ Perhaps not most, but many Hollywood movies can be an insightful source to teach not only American culture, but also socio-economic-political-historical facets in content-based classes.
